Les fantômes du bal / Bertrand Labarre

Les fantômes du bal / Bertrand Labarre

Introducing a friend is something critical. The problem, when you do it on a blog is that you may leave a trace of you incompetence. Since I’m aware of such a catastrophe which could result from a too restrictive description of his humble person, i would rather describe how i met Bertrand.

It was in October, last year. He was performing, as part of the “festival de poche”, a concert i was part of the audience. Later, I and a few friend saved the birthday party of his beloved “Cath”, he joined the “club des amateurs de bon vins et films chiants” and appeared to be some person that one could have a decent mind and was able to both speak and express himself with well shaped an thought argument. Later, on his facebook profile, i discovered his photographic works. Those are visible on his photo-blog , and his site

enjoy !

Super Regular

There is something real great about Twitter, especially when you use the “near” feature embedded in Twitterrific. You may encounter people you would not have encountered anyways. You hear some real interesting things and other that you don’t even care about. You get added to a group that you know nothing about except that they do something like you do. It doesn’t makes you part of something but at least its not discriminating so you really enjoy discovering things like the strange habit Vincent has.

Vincent posts a picture of his first morning coffee shot on Twitter. This picture is tagged with an ordinal number. Today is #73. Its not really interesting. Its just photo blogging. But, i have a culture. The first name reaching my mouth when i talk about the feeling i have looking at Vincent’s work is OPALKA.

There was a show in TOURS in 2004 at the CCC featuring some of OPALKA’s daily shots of his face next to his painting at the end of each day of work… Nothing of real interest if he had not done it for several years … the real point of his work is its duration. And its all that matters. None could have been able to tell at the beginning what would be the real consequence of this experiment.

Vincent’s work is warmer and much more personal. Its a part of his life, a portrait of the day which is given to the world trough his little social network channels. There is (i don’t think) any artistic intention involved in this process. He publishes, spread & archives at once. Its just like discovering, learning & teaching at once. The CofeeShot pictures are stored on a web server and some people may see those everyday, sometime few would browse back to the previous ones but who really cares about all the 73 single absurd portrait Vincent took in the last 3 month? Who cares about his first daily coffee that much?

I do care because i want to know the story. I want the next episode. I need simple stories, simple facts. Simple traces. A stupid cup of coffee is much more interesting that all the good and bad news the morning media delivers wile i drink m very own coffee in my Pantone coffee cups ! So every morning, i religiously spring my twitter app and follows that silly story because i have no idea where is it going. I don’t know what does that means. I don’t care about what i t means. All i care about is that it means someone cares about doing it and that’s fine with me.

Of course there is a lot in what he does that resound with my very work and relation to time. He found a way that is not mine and that picks my attention up. I don’t wish i had the idea. I just wish i had been as accurate as he’s!

If tomorrow you don’t know what to do around  10:00 am; just follow @freetux and check his coffee shots. It will make your day.

“A journey trough digital culture realms across experimental creative practices”

This is how Urzhiata blog depicts itself. I tend to extend this description by adding to it. Yet it is what it is said to be but it is more than this. A place to learn and study. A place to learn how to hack into digital media and find informations on events around that very domain.

The blog offers tutorial and review on technologies such as pure-data, processing, ffmpgeg … it deals with video, audio and image creation / manipulation…

Calcyum – Infographie open source

by [PH]

Calcyum.org

Here is a nice website for those who seeks quality tutorial and news related to open-source graphic tools and practice. Unfortunately, you, my non french readers, might not benefit from the talent of this site’s editors. But its some place that i recently discovered and quite enjoy as part of my daily news browsing. Reviews are concise and informative, tutorials are quite explicit and straightforward wile the skill scale is appropriate – The authors don’t over evaluate the difficulty of the techniques they feature -and the overall approach is more art than technology oriented. Its a delight to browse and learn from. A must in the blogosphere when it comes to graphic works.

Calcyum.org is : Thibaut HOFER / FeIZocE , Elisa de Castro Guerra and Popolon.
